Alleged Desecration of Holy Quran in Sargodha

Sargodha: A violent mob attack occurred in the Mujahid Colony area of Sargodha, Punjab, on Friday, following allegations of the desecration of the Holy Quran. The incident sparked widespread protests and attacks on multiple houses, with windows broken and household belongings set on fire.

Local police officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that a Christian family was rescued and relocated to a safe location. However, there has been no official statement from the government or senior police officials.

Video footage obtained by Aaj News shows police personnel attempting to intervene between the angry mob and private properties. The Sargodha District Police Officer (DPO) and other officials rushed to the scene to try to disperse the mob.

According to police officials, the desecration was committed by unknown individuals, and burnt pages of religious books were found, leading to the violent protests. Members of the peace committee also arrived at the scene, urging people to remain calm.

This incident bears a disturbing resemblance to a similar event in August 2023, where violent mobs burned down a Christian home in Punjab’s Jaranwala following blasphemy allegations.

The situation highlights the ongoing challenges of religious tensions and violence in the region, emphasizing the need for prompt action and effective measures to ensure public safety and protect minority communities.
