Catholic Bishops joined Caritas diocesan units to mark Laudato Si Week with tree plantation drive across the country

The event were held in response to the invitation from Pope Francis to participate in the Laudato Si’ Week, 16-24 May 2020. The theme for this week is “Everything is Connected.”





Bishop Benny Mario Travas of Multan and National Chairman Caritas Pakistan planted tree at Laudato Si Garden in Bishop’s House Multan. Rev. Fr Yousaf Sohan, Vicar General Multan Diocese and Fr. Nadeem Patras also planted tree. His Excellency shared that activities regarding Laudato Si week are underway through Caritas Pakistan Multan Climate Change Program. “Let us celebrate this special week with a spirit of love for mother earth,” he said.

Archbishop Sebastian Shaw of Lahore started the week with special prayer of Luadato Si’ and planting trees in Archbishop house. His Grace urged the faithful to care for our common home with all our actions. He also named a small garden in the Archbishop house as Luadato Si’ Garden. Kitchen gardening is being carried out in the garden.

Caritas Pakistan Faisalabad continued “One More Million Tree Planation’’ on May 17 2020 at Bishop House Diocese of Faisalabad. Bishop Indrias Rehamat offered a Holy Mass with respective representatives of religious or social institutes of Diocese of Faisalabad.

The bishop later planted trees with Rev. Fr. Abid Tanveer (Vicar General), Aneel Mushtaq (Executive Secretary CPF) Rev.Fr. Pascal Polus ( Parish Priest) , Rev. Fr.Khalid Rashid Assi( Parish Priest) ,Caritas Pakistan Faisalabad Team, Dominican Sisters & sisters of (Daughter of Saint Paul).
“Individually we all need to play our part of saving Earth by planting trees in our surroundings. It will not only benefit us but also our generations. So keep up planting trees for yourself and for others,” said Bishop Indrias.

Mr. Amjad Gulzar Executive Director Caritas Pakistan also convened an online reflection meeting with diocesan units and staff members on May 18.
“The virus outbreak and lockdown gives us an opportunity to think positively about our surroundings and care for the vulnerable. Laudato Si will remain our guideline for now and decades to come,” he said.
