Promote and Spread God’s message in the world, Cardinal Fernando C. Filoni

Vatican City (Samia Cornelius): May 13, 2017, was a day of great joy for Pontifical Urban College: 18 brothers were ordained deacons by His Emi. za Fernando Card. Filoni in the midst of members of the clergy, family, friends and colleagues in a Mass held at 16.00 in St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City. Cardinal Filoni congratulated the Deacons on their vocations, and prayed for their missionary success. “We are blessed with this new batch of missionaries,” he said in his homily, “They will take on the mission of promoting and spreading God’s message in the world, and we pray for their steadfastness and success. We also congratulate their families and loved ones for raising them up to be God’s messengers.”

Among the 18 ordained were two brothers from Pakistan: Adnan Masih and Aamir Bhatti.

Brother Adnan Masih, 28, is a resident of Narowal. His parent and seven siblings belong to the St Paul’s Parish Narowal. He started his missionary journey by enrolling in the St Mary’s Seminary Lahore in 2007, and then continued to study Philosophy from 2009 to 2012 in St Francis Xavier Major Seminary. Thereafter he came to Rome and got enrolled in Pontifical Urban College for further education. Father Francis Gulzar, Vicar General of Archdiocese of Lahore and Father Bernard Emmanuel, Parish Priest at Mariamabad Parish came to Rome from Pakistan to be a part of his joy at the occasion.

Brother Aamir Bhatti, 31, lived with his family in Steel Town Karachi till 2005. His family members are parishioners of St Thomas. In 2005, he enrolled in St Piux X Minor Seminary Karachi to begin his religious journey. After three years he got promoted to study Philosophy at St Francis Xavier Seminary Youhannabad Lahore, after which he came to Rome to study Theology and Missiology. His family, and Father Mario Rodrigues, Rector St. Patrick’s Cathedral Karachi flew in from Pakistan to congratulate the new Deacon.
