You have to go out on a mission to preach and serve, Archbishop Joseph Coutts

Karachi (Samantha Rodrigues): The Ordination of Deacon Shahid Boota and Afzal Ghufam to the Priesthood was held in St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Saturday, 10th December 2016. His Grace Archbishop Joseph Coutts presided over the Eucharistic Celebration. The Clergy of the Archdiocese of Karachi made their way to the Cathedral in a procession while the Christ the King Major Seminarians sang the hymn Tujhay Khudawand Nay Chun Leya Hay.

Archbishop Joseph Coutts when addressing the deacons reminded them of their Priestly duty. In the midst of the challenges you face, God is good and faithful. I encourage you to turn your focus from your circumstances to God. Trust Him to carry you through your current difficulty, the hope or dream yet to be fulfilled. God sent Christ in the world so that through his blood we may receive salvation. He did not come to be served but to serve. You have to go out on a mission to preach and serve God’s people. Are our ready to drink from the cup of Salvation? he continued.

“As you took three steps ahead to the future knowing where you are heading, God has called you and brought you through every step of this journey. In your human frailties, shortcomings and mistakes, remember, God demonstrates His love and faithfulness. He never changes. You can trust Him with your disappointments, concerns, hurts, fears and pains of this life. God never forgets you or His promises for your life. I encourage you to reach out to Him when your hearts are burdened and troubled”.

He also enlightened them from the biblical verse of Mt 10:16. He concluded emphasizing on the meaning of a good shepherd; the one who goes out and serves the flock and lays down his life for the flock. Whatever may happen in your life, remember God’s faithfulness and love for you. Always remain faithful to him.

He then urged the faithful to pray fervently for the Pope, bishops, and clergy and for the seminarians who are preparing themselves for the sacrament of Ordination.

The Rites of the priestly ordination took place and the Eucharistic Celebration continued. At the end of the mass the newly ordained blessed their parents before processing out of the Cathedral. There was a display of fireworks.
