Cardinal Coutts Emphasizes Mother Mary as Our Role Model
Karachi: On 8th September 2025, the Universal Church joyfully celebrated the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Karachi was no exception. The church was beautifully decorated with lights, and a large number of devotees from various parts of the Archdiocese of Karachi gathered to participate in the festivities.
The celebration marked the culmination of the nine-day novena of Our Lady of Velankanni, which began with the theme of “Khawtoon e Shifa.” The faithful gathered to honor the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary, seeking her intercession and blessings.
The highlight of the celebration was the solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by His Eminence Joseph Cardinal Coutts. He was con-celebrated by Fr. Arthur Charles, Fr. Asher Iftikhar, Fr. Parvez Khalid and Fr. Sullivan Joshua. The Cardinal’s homily focused on the divine plan of salvation and the central role of the Blessed Virgin Mary in it. He emphasized that Mary is a role model for us, showing us how to trust in God’s plans despite our own limitations.

Special Blessing of Oil
The celebration concluded with the recitation of the concluding prayer of the novena in Tamil, followed by the special blessing of oil by the Cardinal. This oil will be available throughout the year for the healing of the faithful. The pastoral team extended their congratulations to all the faithful on the occasion of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
