Archbishop Benny Presides Over Diaconate Ordination in Karachi
Karachi: On Friday, 29th August 2025, the Archdiocese of Karachi witnessed a moment of grace & joy as Br. Haroon Khurshid was ordained to the diaconate through the imposition of hands by His Grace Archbishop Benny Mario Travas. The solemn ceremony, held with reverence & dignity, drew together priests, religious sisters & brothers, catechists and a large number of faithful from across the archdiocese.
In his homily, Archbishop Travas reflected on the spirit of obedience, humility & service, emphasizing that service in the Church is a precious gift from God. He reminded the faithful that God’s fidelity strengthens His servants and enables them to embrace their vocation with perseverance and commitment. He encouraged Dn. Haroon to remain steadfast in faith and faithful to his ministry of service to the Church and the People of God.

The rite of diaconal ordination was celebrated with full liturgical solemnity. A moving moment was the vesting of Br. Haroon with the deacon’s stole and dalmatic, performed by Fr. Shahid Boota, Parish Priest of St. Philip’s Parish, who also accompanied him with prayer and guidance. Following the vesting, Dn. Haroon exchanged the kiss of peace with Archbishop Travas, symbolizing his new role in the Church’s ministry of service.
The presence of the entire presbyterate of the Archdiocese of Karachi added a special dimension of unity & encouragement. Their participation highlighted the communion of the local Church and its support for Dn. Haroon as he begins this new chapter of ministry.
At the end of the Mass, Dn. Haroon Khurshid expressed his heartfelt gratitude to God the Father, to Archbishop Travas, to the priests of the archdiocese, to the faithful and to his family for their prayers and support. He made special mention of Fr. Benjamin Shehzad and Fr. Shahid Boota, acknowledging their guidance and encouragement in his formation journey.
The faithful showed their love and joy by presenting gifts and garlands, a cultural expression of their deep affection and esteem for the newly ordained deacon. The celebration concluded with the solemn final blessing imparted by Archbishop Travas, sending the community forth with renewed faith and thanksgiving.
The ordination of Deacon Haroon Khurshid stands as a reminder that the call to serve is indeed a divine gift, one that brings life, hope, and joy to the Church.
