Diocese of Hyderabad Hosts Summer Study Program
Hyderabad: The Diocese of Hyderabad’s 15th Annual Summer Study Program came to a close on July 26, 2025, after a month of intense academic, spiritual, and communal activities at St. Bonaventure’s Minor Seminary in Mirpurkhas. The program, which ran from July 2nd to July 26th, was led by Fr. William Emmanuel, Rector of the Seminary, and aimed to enhance the academic formation of seminarians, preparing them for their future pastoral and spiritual responsibilities.
Throughout the month, seminarians engaged in a variety of enriching experiences, including academic sessions, spiritual activities and community-building exercises. The academic sessions were led by passionate and knowledgeable instructors who not only taught with dedication but inspired with conviction. Sir Azeem Lazarus taught English grammar and dialogue, while Fr. William Emmanuel conducted classes on public speaking, tongue twisters, and the integration of words from languages like French, Italian, Arabic, and Greek into English. Sir Saleem Anjum offered powerful instruction in Urdu grammar and literature, and Mrs. Saleem Anjum provided profound insights into the power of language in pastoral and social contexts.

The program also nurtured the spiritual and physical well-being of the seminarians. Daily Holy Mass, recitation of the Divine Office, and Holy Hour every Sunday evening allowed the seminarians to remain anchored in prayer and reflection. Sports and games, especially volleyball and cricket, helped strengthen community and teamwork. A joyful picnic was organized on July 19th, led by Fr. Rector William Emmanuel, providing a chance for the seminarians to bond in a relaxed and joyful setting.
The closing ceremony on July 26th was a celebration of growth and achievement. The event was graced by His Excellency Bishop Samson Shukardin, Fr. Amoon Nathaniel and the respected academic staff. The ceremony began with the traditional Sindhi Ajrak welcome, symbolizing love and hospitality. Seminarians shared their personal reflections, highlighting the academic and spiritual impact of the program on their lives.
Bishop Samson Shukardin delivered a deeply encouraging speech, appreciating the seminarians’ growth in English proficiency and moral character. He praised Fr. William Emmanuel for organizing such a visionary and effective program. Fr. William Emmanuel, in his vote of thanks, expressed his deep gratitude to the bishop, the teachers, and the seminarians. He reflected on the fruits of the program and the importance of continuous formation rooted in faith and discipline.

The ceremony concluded with a final blessing from the bishop, followed by high tea, bringing a graceful and joyful close to a month that will be remembered for years to come. The 15th Annual Summer Study Program was a testament to the commitment of the Diocese of Hyderabad to the formation and development of its seminarians. As the seminarians move forward in their journey towards priesthood, they carry with them the knowledge, skills, and spiritual growth acquired during the program, ready to serve the Church and the community with renewed passion and dedication.
