Seminarians Explore Priesthood as Heralds of the Word of God
Lahore, September 13, 2025 – Seminarians from St. Francis Xavier Major Seminary, Lahore, gathered for a special seminar focused on deepening their understanding of the priesthood and its essential mission. The session was led by Fr. Tahir Aziz, Rector of the Seminary, who shared his valuable pastoral experiences and insights on the priest’s central role as a herald of the Word of God.
Fr. Tahir highlighted that proclaiming the Word is not just one aspect of priestly ministry but its very foundation. He drew from his own years as a parish priest, outlining several practical ways priests can effectively connect with their people and bring the Gospel to life.

Among the strategies he shared were:
- Being present for the sick and those in need – providing pastoral care and compassion in moments of suffering.
- Organizing parish pilgrimages – creating opportunities for spiritual growth and shared faith experiences.
- Fostering positive communication – building trust and openness within parish communities.
- Utilizing local expertise – encouraging lay participation and using parishioners’ skills to strengthen the Church.
Fr. Tahir also offered a deeply personal reflection on the importance of community life in a priest’s vocation. He recalled his time living with the late Bishop Rufin Anthony at Khushpur parish, where their shared rhythm of prayer, the breviary, and meditation nurtured unity and provided a powerful witness to the wider community.
The seminar proved to be an inspiring experience for the seminarians, offering them not just theological insight but also practical guidance on living out their future priestly ministry with faithfulness, compassion, and commitment.
