Catechists of Karachi Archdiocese Conclude Annual Retreat

Karachi: The annual retreat for the catechists of the Archdiocese of Karachi was held at the Franciscan Custos House, Karachi from July 14 to July 18, 2025. The theme of the retreat was “Pilgrims of Hope in Communion.” The retreat was led by Fr. Khan Paulus OMI.




On the first day of the retreat, Fr. Khan Paulus OMI spoke about the significance of pilgrimage and the role of pilgrims in the Catholic faith. He emphasized the importance of spiritual journey and the need for catechists to be guides for the faithful. On the second day, he explored the concept of hope in the Christian context, highlighting its spiritual dimensions and relevance to everyday life.

The third day’s session focused on the theme of communion, where Fr. Khan Paulus discussed the importance of unity and cooperation among catechists and the broader Church community. On the fourth day, he reflected on the nature of spirituality and its role in the lives of catechists. The final day’s session was dedicated to the theme of Mary, Mother of God, as a guiding light for catechists.

The retreat concluded with a special Mass, presided over by His Grace Archbishop Benny Mario Travas (Archbishop of Karachi), Fr. Arthur Charles (Director of Catechetical Commission), Fr. Waqas Brain (Director of Jubilee Year), Fr. Sunil Sarfraz, Fr. Alex and Fr. Imtiaz OMI. The catechists had the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation during the retreat.

Throughout the five-day retreat, the catechists engaged in various spiritual activities, including Eucharistic adoration, holy hour, and reflection on the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.” The retreat provided a valuable opportunity for the catechists to deepen their faith, strengthen their commitment to their ministry, and build relationships with one another.

In his remarks, Archbishop Benny Mario Travas expressed his gratitude to Fr. Khan Paulus for leading the retreat and to the catechists for their dedication to spreading the Gospel. He encouraged the catechists to continue their vital work in parishes and schools, sharing the message of hope and love with others.

The annual retreat is an essential part of the catechists’ formation and spiritual growth, enabling them to fulfill their role as messengers of God’s love and mercy. The Archdiocese of Karachi remains committed to supporting its catechists through ongoing formation and spiritual development programs.
