Dominican Community Honors St. Dominic’s Legacy and Ministry
Bahawalpur: The feast day of St. Dominic, founder of the Dominican Order, was celebrated on August 8, 2025, with immense fervor and devotion at St. Dominic Parish, Bahawalpur. The occasion also marked the parish’s own feast celebration, bringing together the community of friars, Dominican Sisters, Lay Dominicans and parishioners.
Fr. Younas Shahzad OP, Parish Priest, presided over the Holy Mass, while Fr. Azhar Lal OP shared reflections on the Word of God. The community came together to worship, reflect, and give thanks.
Following the mass, a social program was held to recognize the achievements of students who scored over 800 marks in their Matric exams. Certificates and Holy Bibles were presented to these high-achieving students, while special shields were awarded to those who secured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions in the parish.

The event featured two tableaux and a drama on the life of St. Dominic, highlighting his legacy and contributions to the Church. The Vision and Mission of the Parish were also showcased, demonstrating its commitment to various ministries.
The celebration was marked by active participation from the community, including kids from Christian Colony Bhatta No. 2 and Yousaf Town, who presented tableaux at the end of the mass. Mr. Danish Younis, a Lay Dominican, played the role of St. Dominic in one of the presentations.
The celebration concluded with a renewed commitment to continue St. Dominic’s legacy of preaching and spreading the Word of God. The community prayed for his intercession, asking that they may be inspired by his example to share the Gospel with boldness and compassion.
St. Dominic, founder of the Dominican Order, was a priest known for his love of learning, preaching, and prayer, especially the Rosary. He was born in 1170 in Caleruega, Spain, and founded the Order of Preachers in 1216. His feast day is celebrated on August 8 every year in the Catholic Church.
The celebration at St. Dominic Parish was a testament to the enduring legacy of St. Dominic and the commitment of the community to follow in his footsteps. May his example inspire us to spread the Gospel with fervor and devotion.
