Move Forward like the Priesthood of Christ, Archbishop Shaw
Lahore: On 26th July 2024, Br. Amir Yousaf & Br. Niamat Bashir were ordained as priests by Archbishop Sebastian Francis Shaw OFM at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Lahore. Archbishop Shaw led the Holy Mass, along with Fr. Basharat Exupear OMI, Superior of the OMI and Fr. Asif Sardar, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Lahore, among other priests. Relatives of the newly ordained priests and a large number of faithful attended the Mass, imbued with true religious spirit.
The first reading was from the 6th Chapter of Isaiah, second from the letter of St. Paul’s Letter to the Hebrew, and the Gospel reading was taken from the 15th Chapter of Gospel of St. John.

In his homily, the Archbishop said that today is a day of great joy in our diocese as we ordain two of our brothers as priests. This momentous occasion reminds us that our calling is not of our own doing, but rather a gift from God. We have been chosen by Him, and He has blessed us with this vocation.
As we celebrate the feast of Sts. Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we are reminded of the importance of nurturing and raising our children in faith, just as they did with Mary. And just as Mary and St. Joseph raised Jesus, we too are called to raise our children in the ways of the Lord.
I pay tribute to the parents of our ordinands, who have raised them with love and devotion. May their example inspire us all to support and encourage vocations to the priesthood.
As we move forward, let us join the priesthood of Jesus, offering our lives in service to others. May our ordinands be filled with the grace and wisdom of God as they embark on their priestly journey. May they be instruments of God’s love and mercy, and may they bring joy and hope to all they serve.
At the conclusion, Fr. Niamat Bashir expressed gratitude to God, their parents, the Archbishop, the formators and all who graced today’s Mass and contributed in making success during the time of formation.
Newly Ordained Priests
Fr. Amir Yousaf
Born on August 14, 1993, in District Kasur Gojra, Fr. Amir Yousaf received his early education in Kasur. He completed his Matriculation in 2009 and joined St. Mary’s Minor Seminary, Lahore in 2010. After completing his seminary education in 2022, he served at Hafizabad and Sheikhupura Parish. Currently, he is serving at St. Mary’s Minor Seminary, Lahore.
Notably, Fr. Amir’s ordination was initially scheduled for 2023, but due to a severe road accident and subsequent injuries, it was postponed.
Fr. Niamat Bashir
Fr. Niamat Bashir, born in 1995, hails from Sanglahil Parish. He received his early education in Sanglahil and completed his Matriculation in 2011. He joined St. Mary’s Minor Seminary, Lahore in 2012. After completing his seminary education in 2023, he served at Mariamabad and St. Anthony Parish Lahore. Currently, he is serving at Kasur Parish.
